THE 2008 MUMBAI ATTACKS

These were a group of terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when some of the organizations, carried out a series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai. The attacks began on Wednesday, 26 November and lasted until Saturday, 29 November 2008, killing 164 people and wounding at least 308, including several from the civilians as well Mumbai Police. Thousands of innocent lives got destroyed by these attacks and many more would have been lost if the Mumbai Police and the National Security Guards (NSG) had not eliminated the terrorists from the attacked sites.

HOPING FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

Many years have passed but it seems that the "Spirit of Mumbai" is determined not to let the evil pounce ever again. There have been efforts by the government as well as by the police to heal the bruises of the attack by ensuring full security to the Mumbaikars. In addition, what is essential is constant vigilance by the citizens. A well-trained and equipped "Force One" unit has been posted at different sites across the city; modern arms and armoured vehicles have been provided to the unit.

I was involved in treatment of two of such victims, wherein the bullet had pierced through the thigh, damaging muscle, blood vessels and nerves extensively. After repeated surgeries, extensive tissue debridement and microsurgical reconstruction, the Police Sub-Inspector was back on his feet and could resume active service in the same cadre.
